A Woman of Peace in Mumbai

A Woman of Peace in Mumbai

As we walked into her home, the woman grabbed a red cloth and placed it over her idols and pooja (altar). She did this as a sign of respect for us—to show that she wanted to hear our stories.

Her residence was one of the first houses at the entrance to the neighborhood—but it was obvious her influence spread across the community.

We sat on the floor in the home of a Hindu priestess who wanted to meet us and hear our stories.

She insisted we wait for someone to come before we started. As we paused, more people entered the home. Some gathered outside the doorframe but within earshot.

It was evident we were sitting in the home of a possible ‘person of peace’ much like the one Jesus talked about in Luke 10.

The woman had met our translator previously and asked for us to come visit her home—and when we obliged, she invited her family and friends to come and hear what we had to say.

There we were, in the home of a devout idol worshipper, sharing about the love of Christ.

For two hours we talked about Jesus and what he means to us. We prayed for all those who asked.

When we walked away my friend asked our translator, “do you think they are closer to coming to faith?” Our translator said yes.

We left that home without having led anyone to Jesus but we know we spoke with a woman who—once she comes to know Him, will have an influence far beyond what any of us can imagine.
